Turning Confinement

containment regions or restrict the toolpath further within the region.

HSMWorks Turning operations attempt to remove all the remaining stock possible with the selected operation type. Using geometry confinement the toolpath can be containing within a specific region of the part.

Up/Down Machining for Turning Profile Grooving

On the Turning Profile Grooving strategy you have a Up/Down parameter which works much as in Parallel milling.

In Turning Profile Grooving, the up/down parameter controls the direction of the finishing passes, and can be either "Up and Down", "Up Only" or "Down Only"

Turning Feed & Speeds

In Turning, it is common to set the speed using Constant Surface Speed (CSS) so that the spindle speed depends on the diameter of the stock, and is no longer constant (this is opposite to milling tools where there the surface speed only depends on the RPM and tool diameter).

To aid the user in setting up the feed and speeds, HSMWorks calculates an example spindle speed and example feedrates using a stock diameter value provided by the user in the Diameter field shown below.

Turning Tool Preview

When selecting a tool for a turning operation, the tool is previewed both in the tool library and on the model while editing the operation.

The preview in the tool library is always shown as if you were holding the tool in your hand, looking down on the tool.

The preview in the model viewport rotates with the view, but corresponds to the preview in the tool library when the Z-axis (blue) points to the right, and the X-axis (red) points down.
